Coronavirus can permanently damage the liver

doctor
Doctors have discovered symptoms of liver damage in patients who have recovered from coronovirus infection.

Patients who have recovered from coronavirus show an unhealthy liver, despite the fact that months pass after the illness, – this was established by the specialists of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. They conducted a retrospective study in which doctors compared the condition of people with liver fibrosis who had and did not have COVID-19. The data were collected between 2019 and 2022.

“The analysis showed that patients who underwent coronavirus had a statistically significantly higher degree of liver fibrosis than patients in the control group who did not have COVID-19,” said scientists at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
Specialists noted that in patients infected with coronavirus, they detected signs of liver tissue damage “months later” after the acute phase of the disease. They recalled that in the case of fibrosis, healthy tissue is replaced by scar tissue – when this process progresses, the likelihood of liver failure and cancer increases for a person. nose
