“The lack of fiber in the diet is dangerous, first of all, due to the rapid development and malignant course of the so-called age-related diseases,” Mikhail Ginzburg told Moscow 24.
In particular, the doctor noted, thanks to eating fiber, the body's defense against such diseases as colon and rectal cancer, atherosclerosis, and diabetes mellitus improves. In addition, fiber contributes to the normalization of cholesterol levels, improves the condition of the intestinal microflora (which has a positive effect on immunity, well-being).

“The established norm is at least about 30 grams of fiber per day,” Ginzburg added.
The nutritionist listed the most useful sources of fiber are fruits, berries, legumes, whole grain cereals and bread.
