Doctor Solomatina: hypothyroidism and gut microbiome failure prevent weight loss

Dietitian Elena Solomatina: underactivity of the thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) is one of the reasons why a person cannot lose weight, despite their efforts.

Dietitian Solomatina informed in an interview about what factors affect energy consumption and weight loss in the body. According to the doctor, people who are trying to lose weight should first of all control their health – in particular, monitor the state of the thyroid gland, on which many processes that affect weight depend.

“For energy production and metabolic processes in the thyroid gland responds to the body,” Solomatina shared with Moscow 24.
The nutritionist stated that insufficient production of gland hormones – hypothyroidism prevents weight loss or even contributes to gaining extra pounds.

“If its function is reduced, and it can be reduced, for example, due to a lack of iodine, then the metabolism slows down,” the expert explained.
In addition to hypothyroidism, gut microbiome failure is another factor that prevents weight loss. Doctor Solomatina said that if the intestinal microbial balance is disturbed, the mechanism of digestion of food begins to change. If the pathogenic flora develops and multiplies in the intestines, its constituent organisms can repeatedly use food masses for their growth. This leads to the fact that the calorie content of the food eaten increases.

Nutritionist Solomatina: dairy products and vegetables can interfere with weight loss

Strong or prolonged stress also interferes with weight loss, the expert added. In a stressful state, the body switches on the regime of intensive accumulation of fat, since it is evolutionarily “programmed” for this. The body makes reserves to survive a difficult time.

Doctor Solomatina named products that can cause intestinal rupture
