Nutritionist Mosley: flax seeds can help lower blood pressure

flax
It is known that flaxseed improves digestion and helps fight constipation. However, flax seeds can also help lower blood pressure.

As nutritionist Michael Mosley told the Daily Mirror, flax seeds are a unique product, especially for those who suffer from cardiovascular diseases. They contain at least three valuable heart-healthy substances: alpha-linolenic acid, fiber and lignans.

Alpha-linolenic acid is anti-inflammatory, lignans are an antioxidant, and fiber protects the heart by lowering cholesterol.

Studies have proven that flax seeds are beneficial for lowering blood pressure and helping improve skin quality.

—This may be due to the fatty acids and antioxidants contained in the seeds. They work better if you grind them, Mosley noted.

More about the benefits of flax seeds:

1. Rich in nutrients. Flax seeds contain vitamins (including vitamin E), minerals (such as magnesium and manganese), and plant phytochemicals that may have antioxidant properties.

2. Source of fiber. Flax seeds are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps lower blood cholesterol and control sugar levels, while insoluble fiber helps improve digestion and prevent constipation.

3. Contains Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Flax seeds are one of the best plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids, such as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and are beneficial for heart and brain health.

4. Thanks to its omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidant content, flax seeds help improve skin health, reduce inflammation and hydrate.

5. Research shows that consuming flax seeds may be associated with a reduced risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and some other chronic diseases.
