Alcohol causes great harm to the body, and the liver is one of the first to suffer. If the point of no return has not been passed, if you give up alcohol, the liver can recover in about a year, said psychiatrist and narcologist Marina Kalyuzhnaya.

According to the doctor, with each dose cirrhosis of the liver develops and the risk of developing cancer increases.

When a person stops drinking, positive changes come quite quickly. So, after a month, alcohol disappears from the brain.

— If you stop drinking alcohol not only in words, but also in deeds, then in a year the liver can renew itself and become healthy. In addition, metabolism, digestion and overall well-being will improve. What’s important is that sexual functions will be fully restored,” noted the specialistRIAMO.

Liver cirrhosis is the final stage of many liver diseases, including chronic hepatitis, alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

What happens as liver failure progresses:

  • Yellowness of the sclera and skin appears
  • Strong, unbearable itching develops
  • Weight loss occurs
  • Persistent diarrhea
  • The abdomen is swollen
  • Permanent swelling
  • The subcutaneous veins of the anterior abdominal wall are dilated

As MedikForum wrote, a psychiatrist-narcologist at the Regional Narcological Hospital of Yaroslavl, Lev Manuilov, spoke about the signs that a person has developed an alcohol addiction.

Classic symptoms of alcoholism:

  • lack of control over the amount of drinking;
  • memory lapses;
