How to understand what the liver “hurts” and why this can happen

doctor
Liver diseases can be caused by various reasons – from a viral infection and excessively plentiful food. The liver is called the “silent organ” because usually the diseases associated with its condition proceed unnoticed.

The liver recovers quickly: signs of liver failure appear when at least 80% of hepatocytes (liver cells) die, but its resources are not unlimited.

How to understand that the liver “hurts”? The first signs of liver disease may be almost invisible.

  • decreased appetite,
  • bitter taste in the mouth,
  • slight yellowness of the whites of the eyes
  • yellow plaque on the tongue,
  • discomfort in the right hypochondrium,
  • apathy, loss of interest in life.

Then the symptoms become more pronounced:

  • Jaundice develops;
  • Skin itching appears, which occurs due to the deposition of bile acids;
  • Xanthomas are formed – yellowish convex plaques caused by the deposition of cholesterol;
  • The palms and lips become red, there is a red smooth “varnished” tongue;
  • Edema;
  • Spider veins appear on the body.

  • In men sexual activity decreases and mammary glands increase; in women, the cycle is broken. It has to do with hormones;
  • Causeless bruising appears, which occurs due to impaired blood clotting;
  • A rash in the form of petechial hemorrhages is observed;
  • Bleeding appears.
  • Dilated veins appear on the abdomen or “jellyfish head”;
  • Fluid accumulates in the abdominal cavity (ascites).
