Doctor Ulankina: tight swimming trunks on the beach can cause fungal infections

man
Tight swimming trunks can cause health problems. Doctor Olga Ulankina spoke about this.

Tightly fitting synthetic fabric creates a moist and warm environment, which is favorable for the growth of bacteria and fungi.

— This can lead to infections on the skin, especially in friction areas, as well as on the mucous membranes of the genital organs, the doctor noted.

If swimming trunks are not changed for dry underwear after swimming (and, as a rule, they are not), the situation gets worse. On the one hand, synthetic material dries quickly, but on the other hand, it remains wet in the crotch area for a long time, especially if you sunbathe or sit at a table. In this case, bacteria multiply even more actively.

As for men, overheating in the groin area can negatively affect reproductive health: sperm quality deteriorates, fertility decreases.

Ulankina advises choosing looser swimming trunks or even prefer swim shorts. You should also change into dry underwear.

Fungal infections can affect the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. Symptoms may vary depending on their location, but often include itching, redness, peeling, blistering or cracking, changes in the color or texture of the skin or nails, and a foul odor or discharge.

At the beach you may face various infections.

1. Fungal skin infections, discussed above. Avoid wearing wet swimsuits or sitting on wet surfaces.

2. Bacterial infections. Some beaches may be contaminated with bacteria such as E. coli or staph. Wash your hands regularly before eating and after contact with sand or water.

3. Urinary tract infections. Swimming in contaminated water may increase the risk of urinary tract infections. After swimming, take a shower and change your wet underwear.

4. Food poisoning.
