It is better for hypertensive patients to avoid: which mineral water increases blood pressure

water
Doctor Elena Malysheva and her colleagues told whether mineral water can increase blood pressure. This was discussed on the air of the program “Live Healthy!”

It was about three types of water.

  • Medicinal – it contains a lot of salt: more than 10 grams per liter of water.
  • Medicinal table – from 1 to 10 grams of salt per liter.
  • Table size – less than 1 gram.

Hypertensive patients can only drink table water, the program participants noted.

— Sodium enters the body, it is retained in the vessel wall, it swells, and blood pressure rises, noted cardiologist Herman Gandelman.

One of the main minerals in mineral water is sodium. Therefore, mineral water increases blood pressure, so hypertensive patients should use such water with caution, doctors summarized.

Please note that for people with hypertension (high blood pressure), consuming excess salt can have negative consequences.

Increased blood pressure. Sodium retains water in the body and increases blood volume. This leads to an increase in blood pressure, which is fraught with dangerous consequences for hypertensive patients.

Deterioration of the functioning of the heart and blood vessels. Sodium increases the stress on them, increasing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Risk of complications. Hypertension itself is a risk factor for the development of stroke, heart attack and chronic kidney failure. Salt intake may increase these risks.

Worsening kidney function, especially in people with existing problems.

It is recommended to limit salt intake for people with hypertension. Doctors usually advise reducing salt intake to 5-6 grams per day. This includes not only added salt, but also hidden salt in foods such as canned goods, cheeses, sausages and prepared meals.
