Gastroenterologist Lebedeva: insulin resistance leads to diabetes and cancer. How to identify it and what to do?

sugar
Gastroenterologist Dilyara Lebedeva spoke about the dangers of insulin resistance. She called this condition a “dangerous bell.”

What is insulin resistance in simple words? This is a condition of the body in which cells are no longer sensitive to insulin and do not allow glucose to enter. Organs and tissues do not receive the energy they need, blood sugar levels increase, which is fraught with dangerous consequences. Metabolic disorders develop.

— When sensitivity to insulin is reduced, the body does not perceive it as it should. The hormone level rises, and so does sugar. This is insulin resistance,” the doctor wrote in herblog.

The danger is that insulin resistance does not manifest itself at all at first. A person takes tests for sugar, they show that everything is within normal limits.

According to Lebedeva, if this condition is not treated, the consequences can be very serious. May develop:

  • type 2 diabetes
  • cardiovascular diseases
  • PCOS and infertility
  • cancer

Excess weight and belly fat deposits are guaranteed.

What to do if insulin resistance is suspected? First of all, remove the reasons that lead to it:

excess weight – especially belly fat
remove fast carbohydrates. If there are no contraindications, you can go on a keto diet
inactivity. Increase your physical activity, you can just walk a lot
hypothyroidism
dysbacteriosis and others.

How can you tell if you have insulin resistance? Symptoms:

  • Constant thirst;
  • Hypertension;
  • Headaches;
  • Excess weight gain;
  • Shortness of breath;
  • Increase in blood cholesterol levels;
  • Constant feeling of hunger.
