As gastroenterologist Kalimat Bagatova said, you need to choose the right side dish for meat. Complex carbohydrates are not the best option.

With protein foods you need to eat vegetables, not buckwheat, pasta, rice. Chicken and vegetable salad are a great combination. It is better to eat complex carbohydrates separately.

— For example, buckwheat with meat is a very big burden for the gastrointestinal tract; in combination, these products prevent the absorption of each other in our body, so it is recommended to eat them separately,” the doctor noted.

Seasonal vegetables and herbs go best with meat.

Let's consider several popular options for side dishes for meat:

1. Mashed Potatoes: This is a classic side dish. Mashed potatoes are soft, smooth and go well with a variety of meats. Nutritionists do not recommend.

2. Grilled vegetables. Juicy and flavorful vegetables such as zucchini, eggplant, peppers and zucchini complement meat perfectly. From a nutritional point of view, this is the right side dish.

3. Various types of rice. Rice goes well with different types of meat and can be prepared in different variations. Controversial option.

4. Green salad. A fresh green salad with a mix of leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables is an excellent accompaniment to meat. Adds freshness and lightness to the dish.  Also a great option: a lot of fiber.

Earlier, doctor and TV presenter Elena Malysheva criticized the popular breakfast – oatmeal with milk. She called these products incompatible.

— In principle, both products are good. Both oatmeal and milk are normal products in themselves, we have no complaints about them. <…> But they are incompatible,” Malysheva noted.

Oatmeal contains phytic acid. Its combination with milk does not allow the calcium contained in milk to be absorbed into the blood. This rule of incompatibility is true for all types of porridges, added Malysheva.
