Endocrinologist Pavlova explained why you crave sweets after a fatty meal. What can be done about this?

girl
Endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova told why after a person has eaten fatty foods, he craves something sweet and vice versa.

She refers to an experiment that scientists conducted on fruit flies. The researchers noticed that if the amount of sugar in the insects’ diet is even slightly increased, this leads to the release of the SHH hormone. It reduces sensitivity to sweets and cravings for them.

The same hormone increases the desire to eat something fatty. In this case, leptin is released. It also suppresses the perception of the taste of fat and increases cravings for sweets.

– A vicious circle is formed. You can get out of it only by avoiding both fatty foods and sweets, the doctor wrote in her blog.

If you decide to lose weight, give up not only sweets, but also fried chicken and other fatty foods.

Why sugar can be harmful:

1. Increased risk of obesity.

2. Increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus.

3. Excess sugar consumption can lead to high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure, which increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

4. Sugar is the main cause of tooth decay. Bacteria in the mouth feed on sugar and produce acid, which destroys tooth enamel.

5. Consuming large amounts of sugar can cause spikes in blood glucose levels, leading to mood swings. After a spike in sugar, you may feel tired and irritable.

How to give up sugar or reduce its consumption to a minimum?

  • Start by gradually reducing the amount of sugar added to your food and drinks.
  • Avoid foods that contain hidden sugar. Read labels and do not buy products where sugar is listed in the first five ingredients.
  • Replace sweets with fruits, berries, dried fruits or natural sweet spices, such as cinnamon or vanilla.
  • Drink water or low-fat milk instead of soda and juice.
  • Cook your own meals
  • Be aware of hidden names for the same sugar: fructose, dextrose, high fructose corn syrup.
  • Be patient. Over time, your taste will change, and it will be easier for you to enjoy the natural taste of food.
