Endocrinologist Pavlova: boys with excess weight and “female” breasts have a risk of developing cancer

legs
Endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova said that lately more and more boys who are in their teens and who are overweight develop too large breasts. And there are more and more overweight children.

“Worst of all, every twentieth of them begins to form almost feminine, unnecessarily large breasts. This is all due to the fact that in the body of overweight adolescents, testosterone (and a lot of it is produced in adolescence) is converted into estradiol, the “female” hormone, due to which breasts grow, – the doctor wrote in her blog .

We are talking about gynecomastia. According to Pavlova, this disease is treated surgically, that is, by removing the breast.

— Fortunately, the operation does not have serious consequences, and it lasts only half an hour, — the doctor added.

With an excessive amount of adipose tissue, a teenager will always form an increased amount of estradiol. It leads to other problems, very serious ones.

We are talking about:

  • Increased risks of cardiovascular disease.
  • < li>Increased risks of inflammatory diseases, such as joint diseases.

  • Oncological risks (cancer).

It is important to lose weight in order to prevent the development of serious diseases, Pavlova emphasized.
Gynecomastia– a male disease of the mammary glands, in which they increase in size on one or both sides. Its danger is that in an advanced stage it can lead to the formation of a malignant tumor.

Why is a teenager overweight?

< li>Excess intake of calories in a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Hereditary predisposition.
  • Excess production of the hormone cortisol.
  • Insufficient thyroid function.
  • Long-term use of glucocorticoids, antidepressants.

Why is obesity in adolescence dangerous?

Adolescence is an important period of time for preventing the development of diabetes and myocardial infarction. Obese teens were more likely than their lean peers to have a heart attack, type 2 diabetes, or (self-reported) ill health between the ages of 30 and 40.

How is gynecomastia in men treated?

/b>
The treatment of gynecomastia is based on the treatment of the underlying disease – the one due to which the breast has increased. Before surgery, the patient may be prescribed estrogen or testosterone preparations.

How does estradiol affect weight?

Excess weight may be due to high levels of hormones responsible for the development of subcutaneous fatty tissue. One of them is estradiol. Excess estradiol in the blood causes accelerated deposition of fat in the abdomen and thighs.
