Biologist Baranova: coronavirus can “sit” on the tonsils and adenoids for a long time and asymptomatically

neck
Biologist Anacha Baranova said that the tonsils and adenoids are “the very place” where the virus “can sit for a long time and without symptoms.” Including coronavirus.

Removed tonsils are valuable biomaterial. Previously, they were removed often, now – much less often.

“In approximately every fourth of the pairs of tonsils and adenoids removed in 2021, SARS-CoV-2 was found, without any symptoms, well, except for the swelling of these same tonsils, of course,” the expert noted in her blog.

Recall that COVID-19, a coronavirus infection, is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

Because of this, there may be confusion with diagnosis, Baranova noted. If SARS-CoV-2 “sits silently” on the tonsils of children, and they catch a common cold or flu, then PCR analysis will show Covid. And it will be Covid that will be recorded in the statistics.

How is PCR done? A smear is taken from the surface of the palatine arches, tonsils, and nasal passages.

Symptoms of coronavirus may vary depending on the type of virus and the individual characteristics of the body. Currently, the most common symptoms of COVID-19 are:

1. High temperature.

2. Cough. Dry or prolonged, may be moderate to severe.

3. Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath.

4. Feeling tired and weak may be one of the symptoms of coronavirus. Fatigue can be severe and prolonged.

5. Headache.

6. Loss of smell and taste.

7. Severe sore throat.
