Anti-cancer cabbage soup: doctor Kashuh spoke about the benefits of nettle soup

Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh spoke about the benefits of wild plants. Many of them are medicinal plants, but some are not only healthy, but also tasty.

Stinging nettle is especially popular in folk cuisine. In May and early June, it is young, soft and almost does not sting. Before cooking, nettles need to be doused with boiling water; they are suitable for both cabbage soup and salad.

According to Kashukh, nettles contain a lot of vitamins C, B6, B9, B12 and carotene, which helps healing and is good for vision and work brain. In terms of the amount of carotene, nettle is ahead of carrots. 

“Vitamin K, contained in nettles, helps blood clot and also prevents the occurrence of cancerous tumors,” said the doctor.

Kashukh warned about a possible allergic reaction to wild plants.

For dishes different parts of dandelion are used: jam is made from the flowers, leaves are brewed with tea, a salad is made from them, tinctures and a decoction reminiscent of coffee are prepared from the root.

The dandelion is eaten in the form of salad and fillings for pies, adding in dishes as a seasoning or using instead of cabbage when cooking soups.

Wild plants can be a good addition to the diet, but everything needs moderation, the specialist emphasized. If you are taking any medications, you should not consume wild plants without consulting a doctor – there may be adverse reactions.
