Neurologist Ekaterina Demyanovskaya told what signs can be used to recognize a “childhood” stroke. She commented on the unexpected death of a 12-year-old girl.

A 12-year-old schoolgirl died in Balashikha near Moscow. It turned out that the child suffered a so-called “infantile stroke”; it can affect patients aged from 1 month to 18 years.

The development of the disease can be signaled by:

  • headache,

– Unlike adults, for whom ischemic strokes caused by blockage of blood vessels and lack of blood supply to the brain are more likely, another type of stroke is no less likely in children – hemorrhagic , noted Demyanovskaya.

Hemorrhagic stroke occurs due to rupture of a blood vessel and intracranial hemorrhage, while ischemic stroke is caused by blockage of a blood vessel and insufficient blood supply to the brain tissue.

In addition to vascular abnormalities, the cause of hemorrhagic stroke in children can be be:

  • rupture of aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations;
  • vasculitis;
  • blood diseases (hemophilia, disease Verlhof, etc.).

Let us recall the general symptoms of hemorrhagic stroke. They include:

  • speech disturbance;

  • convulsions;
