The appearance of a white coating on the tongue may be due to a fungal infection or disorders in the functioning of the digestive tract, doctors warn.
In an interview with therapist Shot Kalandia, there were lists dangerous disorders in the body, a sign of which is a white coating on the tongue. The doctor noticed that the appearance of such a plaque is facilitated by accumulations that occur between the papillae of the tongue and the state of microparticles of microorganisms, food, waste cells.
“In most cases, plaque on the tongue does not cause any complaints, however, these changes may be accompanied by symptoms such as bad breath, burning and redness of the oral mucosa, loss of appetite,” Kalandia warned in a comment to Izvestia.
The doctor clarified that one of the causes of plaque is an addiction to food with high levels of saturated fatty acids, cholesterol. This type of nutrition negatively affects the balance of microflora in the oral cavity, which is why it is more actively affected by fungal infections.

“The appearance of a white coating on the tongue is one of the few symptoms of the development of oral candidiasis – thrush,” said doctor Kalania.
Speaking of other dangerous disorders in the body, a sign of which is a white coating in the mouth, the physician listed the following pathologies.
- Gastritis.
- Peptic ulcer.
- Pancreatitis.
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
- Diseases of the stomach and pancreas.
- Diseases of the gallbladder and biliary tract.
