Immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov spoke about the features of mycoplasma pneumonia, which many Russians are suffering from today.
Mycoplasma pneumonia is considered “silent”: it develops with a blurred clinical picture, does not have pronounced symptoms of poor health, typical of many pneumonias.
“Among the symptoms of the disease there is no strong cough, phlegm or high temperature, that is, symptoms of classic pneumonia, there is only weakness,” immunologist Zhemchugov said in an interview with NSN.
The expert noted that this disease can only be detected using a tomogram or a blood test for antibodies.
Zhemchugov added that despite the “mild” symptoms, mycoplasma pneumonia significantly weakens the immune system. The expert reported how it spreads.
“Mycoplasma pneumonia spreads by airborne droplets and only with prolonged contact with an infected person.”
Recently it became known that an increase in pneumonia cases was recorded among Russians, the surge in its cases was confirmed by Rospotrebnadzor. Basically, they suffer from “silent” mycoplasma pneumonia, which is mistaken for a common seasonal infection and is often carried on their feet until a sharp deterioration in health occurs. It is difficult to diagnose such pneumonia due to the imperceptibility of inflammation in the alveoli of the lungs. But in its case, the risk of concomitant diseases seriously increases: tonsillitis, herpes, acute respiratory viral infections, including coronavirus. In addition, mycoplasma pneumonia, which causes intoxication, can contribute to complications in the functioning of the heart and kidneys.
