Geriatrician Runikhina advised older people to watch what they drink in the heat whether they have the required amount of water. The expert named the right amount of water for older men and women in hot weather.

“In normal times, elderly women are recommended to drink 1.6 liters of clean water without gas per day, and 2 liters for men. In hot weather, its amount should be increased by 200–300 milliliters,” the doctor shared her recommendation in an interview with Moscow 24.
The geriatrician warned that drinking too little water worsens the fluidity of the blood, increases its viscosity and the tendency to form blood clots. In such circumstances, the risks of cardiovascular accidents, heart attacks and strokes increase significantly.

In addition, Runikhina urged not to drink sugary drinks to quench thirst.

Speaking about the nutrition of older people in hot weather, the doctor recommended avoiding eating fatty meats and other heavy foods. Preference should be given to berries, fruits, vegetables, fermented milk products in the form of not too fatty kefir, cottage cheese.

You should also avoid prolonged exposure to the open air and heavy physical activity, you need to thoroughly ventilate your home, the doctor emphasized.
