Turmeric is considered a very healthy spice, but its improper use is associated with a high risk of dangerous conditions, said cardiologist Danielle Belardo.

Cardiologist Belardo told Insider that turmeric actually has a wide range of benefits. In particular, as a rich source of antioxidants, this spice can effectively combat inflammation and associated diseases, including arthritis, cancer and heart disease. The properties of curcumin (the main component of the spice) have been studied repeatedly by scientists, and there is evidence supporting some of the potential health benefits of turmeric.

At the same time, Belardo said, taking turmeric incorrectly can harm the body. First of all, we are talking about the use of high doses.

The doctor drew attention to the fact that many people take dietary supplements with turmeric, like the spice itself, on purpose, having heard about the benefits. But, depending on your body's sensitivity to it, turmeric can harm the liver by promoting excessive enzyme production. Thus, people risk getting hepatitis if taken regularly or incorrectly.

In addition, turmeric, taken in large quantities, can contribute to unwanted blood thinning.

“According to the British Heart Foundation, if taken turmeric with blood thinning drugs, it can cause an increased risk of dangerous bleeding,” shared cardiologist Danielle Belardo.
The MedikForum.ru portal previously wrote that consuming jam is associated with a risk of hormonal disorders.
