Dairy products in moderation, such as milk and cheese, improve protection against type 2 diabetes, according to a study by Italian scientists from the University of Naples.

Scientists have concluded that dairy consumption is associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin or the insulin it produces does not work properly. Dangerous complications of type 2 diabetes are often heart disease, kidney failure, vision loss, circulatory problems, foot amputation. Being protected from this disease is extremely important.

As a prevention of diabetes, doctors generally recommend eating plant-based foods such as whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and also advise limiting the consumption of most animal products. But researchers at the University of Naples believe that not all animal products are contraindicated if there is a risk of diabetes.

Scientists analyzed the relationship between various animal products and probable type 2 diabetes (in particular, they were red and white meat, processed meat, fish, dairy products, eggs). Their analysis showed that dairy products were most effective in preventing type 2 diabetes or had a neutral relationship with the development of the disease.

How to consume dairy products at risk of diabetes

“Not too high-fat dairy products, especially yogurt are associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes,” the experts stated.
In turn, the daily consumption of red and processed meat, according to their data, is associated with a high risk of diabetes (when eating only 100 grams per day). Scientists recommend giving preference to moderate portions of white meat, fish and eggs for protein.
