Why some people never get hangovers
One in five of us have certain genetic traits that allow us not to experience a hangover. And even with a small amount of sleep, the next morning we will not suffer from headaches and other characteristic symptoms.

Probably each of us has a friend who is perceived by others as lucky, because he never faces a terrible hangover. He probably has his genes to thank for that. Many have heard that drinking the same drink throughout a party, drinking alcohol slowly, or mixing drinks with water can prevent hangover symptoms. But a fifth of people are biologically programmed not to suffer from these symptoms.

The classic symptoms of a hangover include headache, nausea, and vomiting. Studies show that it is mutations in genes that determine how bad a person feels after drinking an excess dose of alcohol. Humans can have anywhere from one to three mutations, all of which affect the severity of hangover symptoms a person experiences after drinking.

Scientists have proved that a hangover is inevitable

The first mutation is responsible for determining how the body breaks down alcohol compounds, because even minor changes can speed up the process of removing this poison from the body. Changes in the gene can increase the rate at which alcohol is metabolized in the body. As a result, the process of overcoming the effects of alcohol on the body is accelerated. In another mutation, a gene regulates the conversion of alcohol into a by-product called acetaldehyde, which is released when we drink alcohol. (READ MORE)
