Psychiatrist Alexey Vilkov: the environment in a person's home is often a reflection of his mental state.

Psychiatrist Vilkov said that the inability to maintain order in the house can indicate the presence of mental problems. In particular, a person who does not clean his home despite the obvious accumulation of garbage from his life activities can be assumed to have depression. As it develops, apathy arises, due to which a person, even noticing the clutter in the apartment, treats it with complete indifference.

Also, Vilkov noted, disorder in the house can be created by numerous old things that a person does not need, but cannot get rid of them, or by things that he finds and brings to himself. Such a syndrome of pathological hoarding often develops in elderly people – it can also reflect mental ill-being.

Vilkov noted that such hoarding or Plyushkin syndrome can develop according to a scenario when real trash begins to accumulate in the house, smoldering and emitting a stench. In severe cases, the amount of trash can be so significant that a person has nowhere to walk or lie down. Such cluttering of the home can signal schizophrenia.

“Plyushkin syndrome can be a manifestation of obsessive-compulsive disorder, that is, obsessive-compulsive disorder, when a person develops a habit of dragging garbage and unnecessary things into the house and hoarding them. Sometimes this is a manifestation of a severe mental disorder – schizophrenia,” the doctor told Vechernyaya Moskva.
Vilkov added that when the inability to maintain order in the house is caused by mental problems, a person usually cannot clearly explain the reason for the sloppiness. Such a person lacks critical perception of the situation, and hoarding takes the form of an uncontrolled obsessive action.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that visiting a bathhouse helps protect against the occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease.
