Pulmonologist Ekaterina Litasova: pneumonia may not have typical symptoms – this “silent” form of the disease is increasingly being recorded by doctors today.

“Classic” pneumonia is accompanied by symptoms such as high temperature, cough, shortness of breath, weakness. But pulmonologist Litasova told VN.ru that recently, cases of so-called “silent” pneumonia, which has no characteristic identifying signs, have become more frequent among Russians.

“Someone who has pneumonia may only have a fever of 38 to 40 degrees without a cough. Or there may only be a cough with shortness of breath – without pronounced symptoms of intoxication,” the doctor named its features.
Litasova emphasized: in order not to miss a “silent” but dangerous disease, you need to pay attention to the slightest changes in your health.

The following symptoms, according to the pulmonologist, should be alarming and encourage you to see a doctor.

  • Within a few days, a person’s temperature rises, which is not brought down by the usual pharmacy antipyretics.
  • Shortness of breath occurs, which can be felt at rest and intensifies even with little physical exertion.

Who is prone to pneumonia.During the period of increased incidence of acute respiratory viral infections, pneumonia often occurs in those who have had a viral disease but have not been properly treated.

How to protect yourself from pneumonia. Pulmonologist Litasova reminded about the effectiveness of vaccination.

“Vaccination is carried out routinely when you feel well, then after a year and after 5 years. Pneumococcal vaccines have shown high effectiveness,” the doctor informed.
