Lung cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer, new study finds.
About 80 percent of lung cancer cases are thought to be preventable, with 72 percent related to smoking. Exposure to air pollution and substances such as asbestos and silica also increases the risk of the disease.

Symptoms

Lung cancer does not always present with symptoms in the early stages.

Symptoms of the disease may include:

  • New cough or cough most of the time
  • If you are out of breath, do what you were doing without any problems
  • Cough with bloody sputum
  • Chest or shoulder pain
  • Chest infections that keep coming back, or chest infection that does not get better
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constantly feeling tired
  • Weight loss.

“Less common symptoms include swelling fingers and nails, known as clubbed fingers. It can also cause pain and swelling in the joints.”
