According to infectious disease doctor Sergei Voznesensky, the mycoplasma infection that appeared in Russia can occur in both mild and severe forms.

People in Russia have started to get sick with mycoplasma infection, this fact was confirmed by Rospotrebnadzor. The department noted that several cases are known and the situation is under control.

Why is mycoplasma infection on everyone’s lips? In China, which became the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic several years ago, this year there was an outbreak of pneumonia due to an increase in the incidence of mycoplasma infection, which is carried by the bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Numerous cases of mycoplasma pneumonia have also been reported by a number of European countries (eg Italy, Germany). It is noted that the main target of infection is children, and among them there is a particularly high incidence. The spread of pneumonia is sparking rumors of a new epidemic or pandemic.

Doctor Voznesensky stated that mycoplasma infection occurs in different ways in sick people, from mild to severe forms.

“Mycoplasma infection can manifest itself in absolutely different ways. For some it may be a mild upper respiratory tract infection, for others it may be pneumonia with a rather severe course, everything is purely individual,” the doctor specified in a comment to RIA Novosti.
Voznesensky emphasized that this disease needs to be diagnosed strictly in accordance with laboratory testing methods. The symptoms of infection are similar to those of other seasonal diseases.

Symptoms of mycoplasma infection:

  • High temperature:
  • Nasal congestion;
  • Sore throat;
  • General intoxication body;
  • Cough;
  • Heaviness when breathing;
  • Fever;
  • Headache;
  • Rash.

A feature of the disease is a persistent cough: it can last several weeks.

In turn, the chief freelance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health on infectious diseases, Professor Vladimir Chulanov, said that mycoplasma is not a new pathogen. Diseases that are caused by it have often occurred before, and their rise also occurred in the autumn-winter period.

“The disease can occur like a common cold, bronchitis or pneumonia. Anyone can get sick, but younger children are more likely to get sick,” the doctor shared with RIA Novosti.
