Cardiologist Anastasia Fomicheva: many cardiac anomalies in teenagers are congenital, with a long asymptomatic development.

Cardiologist Fomicheva spoke in an interview about heart disease that occurs in adolescents. These pathologies most often turn out to be congenital heart defects, which for some reason are not diagnosed in a timely manner. Fomicheva noted that such diseases are characterized by a long course without visible symptoms.

The cardiologist also reported on arrhythmias that occur in adolescents – heart rhythm disturbances.

“Arrhythmias can be not only hereditary or associated with structural changes in the heart, but also acquired, for example, due to taking drugs, poor lifestyle, prolonged stress. If detected in a timely manner, such arrhythmias are reversible,” the doctor shared with Gazeta.ru.
In addition, infective endocarditis, an inflammatory heart disease, can occur in adolescence. It develops as a complication of an infection, usually bacterial. In particular, heart disease in adolescents can occur as a consequence of the same sore throat.

Previous viral infections, colds and flu, can also negatively affect the heart condition of adolescents. A complication of ARVI may be the development of viral myocarditis, in which the heart also succumbs to inflammation. In turn, untreated myocarditis can cause heart failure.

Another common health problem for teenagers is hypertension.

“You should see a doctor if your teen has symptoms that weren’t there before , namely fainting, shortness of breath, fatigue, rapid pulse and chest pain,” suggested the cardiologist.
The MedikForum.ru portal previously wrote that the main cause of a diseased heart can be repeated stress.
