The CDC is cutting the recommended isolation time for people with COVID-19 from 10 days to 5 days if they are asymptomatic. And for the next 5 days, when interacting with other people, they must wear a mask. The fact is that in most cases, the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 occurs at an early stage of the disease, usually 1-2 days before the onset of symptoms and 2-3 days after they occur.

In addition, the CDC is updating the recommended quarantine period for people who have been in contact with people with COVID-19. Unvaccinated people and those who did not receive a second dose of the mRNA vaccine are now required to quarantine for 5 days, followed by strict mask use for another 5 days.

Alternatively, if a five-day quarantine is not possible, it is essential that a person who has been in contact with a COVID-19 patient wears a mask around other people for 10 days. At the same time, those who received revaccination do not need to quarantine after contact, but they must also wear a mask for 10 days.

If you develop characteristic symptoms after contact with a coronavirus patient, then it is recommended to do a PCR test on day 5 for SARS-CoV-2.

Previously, the period of self-isolation in case of contact with SARS-CoV-2 for the United States was 7-10 days in the absence of symptoms.
