Surgeon Umnov: why if you are prone to varicose veins you should not drink more than three cups of coffee a day

coffeeIf a person has varicose veins or is prone to this disease, he should not abuse coffee. Surgeon Alexander Umnov spoke about this.

Varicose veins are a disease accompanied by thinning of the venous wall and an increase in the lumen of the veins. Varicose veins increase the risk of blood clots.

According to an expert, caffeine has an unpleasant effect on this type of disease: it constricts blood vessels. If you drink no more than three cups a day, then most likely there will be no problems.

— But if you drink coffee like water, you may develop not only arterial hypertension, but also varicose veins of the lower extremities, < /i>– the surgeon warned in a conversation with NEWS.ru.

When caffeine enters the blood, vasospasm occurs, which activates the adrenal glands, the doctor continued. The production of adrenaline increases, which leads to an increase in heart rate.

Next, the blood from the periphery is redirected to vital organs: the brain, heart, liver. As a result, in the deep veins of the legs, in addition to spasm, there is also a decrease in blood in the venous bed. This can contribute to the occurrence of thrombosis and inflammation of the walls of these vessels.

It is worth remembering that varicose veins are caused by a complex of factors, and not just coffee abuse, the doctor emphasized.

Here are some of the reasons:

1. Genetic predisposition. Heredity plays an important role in the development of varicose veins. If you have a family history of varicose veins, you may have an increased risk of developing this condition.

2. Weakness of the vein walls. Varicose veins can be caused by weakness in the vein walls, making them more susceptible to dilatation and deformation.

3. Insufficient physical activity. Lack of regular physical activity leads to muscle weakness and decreased blood flow.

4. Pregnancy. During pregnancy, progesterone levels increase, which can weaken the vein walls and contribute to the development of varicose veins.

5. Obesity. Excess weight puts additional pressure on the veins, they dilate.

6. Staying in a stationary position for a long time, especially standing or sitting, impedes blood flow.

7. Trauma or inflammation of the veins can damage the walls of the veins and lead to their expansion.

How to understand that varicose veins are starting?

The initial stage is manifested by fatigue and heaviness in the legs after working day. There may be swelling of the feet, ankles and lower legs, spider veins appear on the legs, night cramps in the calves and pain along the veins. This stage is called superficial due to the formation of vascular webs.
