Medical expert Marina Zavyalova told how to avoid vascular accident and prevent stroke. Sometimes it is enough to follow seven simple rules.
A stroke occurs when the blood supply to an organ is disrupted, causing symptoms to rapidly develop and tissue damage. This is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention.
There are two main types of stroke – ischemic and hemorrhagic. An ischemic stroke occurs when the blood vessels supplying the brain are blocked or narrowed, resulting in reduced blood supply.
A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when blood vessels in the brain rupture, causing hemorrhage.
— Stroke prevention involves eliminating risk factors for the development of this disease. By influencing them, up to 90 percent of stroke cases can be prevented, the specialist emphasized.
Seven simple rules for protecting against stroke:
- control blood pressure
- be physically active
- balance your diet
- control cholesterol and blood sugar
- quit smoke
- abstain from alcohol
- be attentive to the work of the heart, identify and treat arrhythmia.
The main factors in the development of a life-threatening condition are age, genetic predisposition, hypertension, and arrhythmia. A stroke can be caused by narrowing or blockage of the carotid arteries and a tendency to develop blood clots.
Symptoms of a stroke may include loss of strength or paralysis on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding, loss of vision, dizziness, severe headaches and problems with coordination. They can appear suddenly and require immediate intervention.
