Sauces, delicacies, soda: scientists have revised the list of products that can cause cancer

Scientists conducted a study and revised the list of foods that provoke cancer.

It was believed that cancer is provoked by ultra-processed foods. These are products that have gone through many chemical and technological processes to increase their shelf life. This is not entirely true, scientists noted.

The study used data from 260,000 Europeans and followed them for more than a decade. Men ate just over 400 grams of ultra-processed foods every day, women 326 grams. During the observation period, oncology, heart and vascular diseases, and type 2 diabetes mellitus were detected in 4,461 people.

It turned out that the risk of cancer was nine percent higher among those who ate the processed foods in question. Particularly harmful:

  • fatty foods,
  • meat delicacies,
  • sauces,
  • sweet soda.

At the same time, no connection was found between breakfast cereals, bread, meat substitutes (plant-based), cereal products with cancer and other diseases mentioned above.

Endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova spoke about the study in her blog. Here is her comment:

—You know my opinion: clear and simple food is best. Eat tasty, but healthy, she wrote.

Why you should limit your consumption of “junk” food:

Increased risk of developing diseases. Eating foods high in saturated fat, sugar, salt and additives can increase the risk of developing various diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and some types of cancer.

Negative effects on weight and figure.Food, often rich in calories, can lead to excess weight gain. High sugar and fat content contributes to the formation of fat deposits.

Lack of nutrients.Fast food, soda and sweets are often low in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and fiber. Constant consumption of such foods leads to a deficiency of important nutrients in the body.

Risk of addiction. Some foods, especially those containing large amounts of sugar and salt, can be addictive and addictive.

Negative impact on mood and energy.“Fast” foods and foods high in sugar cause fluctuations in blood glucose levels, which leads to mood changes, poor concentration and decreased energy.
