A new variant of the XEC coronavirus is spreading rapidly around the world. This was reported by the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.
— Although XEC spreads quickly, it manifests itself similarly to other recent subvariants of “omicron,” the department noted.
XEC was first detected in Germany in June, and was then detected in several more countries. Its samples were uploaded to the international GISAID database only in September, although there is evidence that this strain was observed in Italy in May.
XEC is a combination of two subvariants of the omicron strain FLiRT – KS.1.1 and KP.3.3.
The symptoms of HES are similar to the previous variants:
- fever,
- runny nose,
- sore throat,
- cough,
- loss of smell,
- loss of appetite,
- fatigue,
- headache.
According to doctors, now those infected with coronavirus do not lose their sense of smell, there is no total weakness.
It was previously reported that variants of the eris and pyrol strain of COVID-19 were identified this year, and in the summer, the omicron variant FliRT appeared. Each new strain is more contagious, but the disease is milder, without serious complications.
FliRT Symptoms:
- nasal congestion;
- sore throat;
- dry cough;
- temperature no higher than 38.5;
- less often: nausea, vomiting, loose stools, headaches, weakness and fatigue.
