Nutritionist Irina Merkulova said that pumpkin, despite all its usefulness, is not recommended in cooked form for high blood sugar levels.
Pumpkin pulp has a high glycemic index – up to 75 units when cooked. The specialist does not recommend eating the product to patients with diabetes and those whose blood sugar levels are above normal.
Pumpkin contains a large amount of vitamin A, carnitine, is rich in fiber, vitamins C and B, as well as a rare vitamin T, which promotes the formation of red and white blood cells. Pumpkin seeds are a source of magnesium, zinc and healthy fats.
– Pumpkin is an excellent replacement for candy and buns. Sweet, but low in calories. 100 grams of raw pumpkin contains an average of 22 kilocalories, – the specialist noted.
What other vegetables are not recommended for diabetics?
- Potatoes. Especially fried or mashed, as they contain a lot of carbohydrates and quickly raise blood sugar levels.
- Sweet potatoes. Although they are more nutritious than regular potatoes, they are also high in carbohydrates and can raise blood sugar levels.
- Carrots. Raw carrots can be healthy, but in large quantities they contain a lot of sugar. It is better to limit the consumption of carrots in boiled form or in juices.
- Beets. Beets contain more sugar than many other vegetables, so they should be consumed in moderation.
- Corn contains a lot of carbohydrates and can increase blood sugar levels, especially when canned or processed.
Peas are rich in protein and fiber, but contain carbohydrates, so they should be consumed with caution.
