The combination of spinach and cheese, popular in baking, displaces the beneficial properties of each other. Doctor and TV presenter Elena Malysheva spoke about this in the program “Live Healthy!” on Channel One. 

Malysheva’s colleague, immunologist Andrei Prodeus, recalled that cheese contains a lot of calcium, which reduces the risk of developing osteoporosis.

Spinach also contains lutein. This is a natural pigment that belongs to the class of carotenoids and is an important nutrient for eye health.

That is, individually, these products have a lot of benefits.

“When you combine cheese and spinach, nothing is absorbed. Spinach contains oxalic acid, which blocks calcium, turns it into an insoluble salt, and it does not pass through the intestinal mucosa and is not absorbed – and all the benefits from it are gone,” explained Prodeus.

Malysheva added that the combination of spinach and cheese is meaningless from a health point of view. She recommended combining spinach not with cheese, but with eggs, for example, in the form of scrambled eggs.
