Early valve replacement is effective in aortic stenosis

Early valve replacement is effective for aortic stenosis
Patients with a type of heart disease called aortic stenosis should undergo valve replacement surgery as early as possible. This conclusion was made by scientists from the University of East Anglia.

Victims of aortic stenosis at the first symptoms of their pathology should seek heart valve replacement surgery, which will help to avoid serious permanent damage. These are the findings of British researchers. A significant number of patients with aortic stenosis do not go through operations at the first stage of their pathology, they wait months and years, wasting precious time.

Aortic stenosis is a narrowing of the valve that separates the pumping chamber of the left ventricle from the aorta, which supplies blood to the rest of the body. After analyzing information from many studies and patients who underwent early surgery before the full development of all symptoms, the authors proved that these people were 79% less likely to end up in hospital with heart failure. There was also a 55% lower risk of death in this category compared to those patients who underwent surgery later.

Many patients with severe aortic stenosis do not experience symptoms and do not seek valve replacement surgery because current medical recommendations do not offer them this. The researchers wanted to know if it would be better to do these valve replacements as soon as possible. Observation showed that this is the best option. (READ MORE) University of East Anglia
