Doctor Sukhorukova: Avoid eggs if you have high cholesterol, pancreatitis and allergies

According to gastroenterologist Lyudmila Sukhorukova, people suffering from allergies, high cholesterol or pancreatitis in the acute stage should refrain from eating eggs.

Eggs are a highly allergenic product; they are contraindicated in case of allergy to chicken protein. If you have liver and gallbladder diseases, you also need to be careful: the yolk has a choleretic effect and can provoke an exacerbation.

Eggs should not be consumed by those who have significantly elevated cholesterol.

— On the one hand, eggs contain cholesterol compensated by lecithin. Eggs do not have any negative effect on a healthy person, since lecithin does not allow cholesterol to settle on the walls of blood vessels, but a sick person should consume egg yolk with extreme caution, — the doctor noted.

Diabetics should also not get carried away with eggs, since their blood vessels can be damaged by sugar, and their risk of developing atherosclerosis is significantly higher.

Eggs are healthy: they are an excellent source of protein, vitamins (A, D, B12) and minerals (iron, selenium). They contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect the eyes from age-related diseases. They are rich in choline, which is important for brain function and memory. Vitamin D in eggs promotes the absorption of calcium, which is important for bone health.

At the same time, eggs contain a lot of cholesterol. And improper storage or preparation leads to foodborne infections such as salmonellosis.
