Doctor Kabanov: Emotional breakdowns indicate a lack of magnesium in the body. What should you eat?

A nutritionist and consultant, deputy director of the ANO Scientific Center “Healthy Nutrition” Alexey Kabanov spoke about tasty and healthy products that can reduce anxiety levels.

According to him, emotional breakdowns can indicate a lack of magnesium in the body, which is actively consumed by the nervous system.

— To maintain its magnesium level, you should add whole grain bread, pumpkin seeds, bread made from wholemeal flour made from wheat, rye or barley to your diet, — noted Kabanov.

Important sources of magnesium include avocado, it contains not only magnesium, but also potassium along with unsaturated fats. This combination “provides unique support for the heart and cardiovascular system as a whole,” the specialist said.

Signs of magnesium deficiency in the body:

  • Constant feeling of fatigue and lack of energy.
  • Muscle spasms and cramps, especially in the legs.
  • Tremor
  • Mood changes: depression, anxiety, irritability.
  • Irregular or increased heartbeat.
  • Difficulty with attention and memory.
  • Frequent headaches or migraines.
  • Constipation or other digestive disorders.
  • Magnesium deficiency can contribute to a decrease in bone density.

Magnesium is found in nuts (almonds, hazelnuts), seeds (pumpkin, sunflower), green vegetables (spinach), beans, whole grains (rye bread), seafood (shrimp, oysters), chocolate, bananas, avocados and others.
