Dermatologist Ivanov explained why water calluses need to be pierced in two places

legs
Dermatovenereologist Roman Ivanov said that you should not tear off or cut off the top layer of the callus, since it protects the “bottom” from infection.

Small water callus Just cover it with a band-aid, it will heal itself within one to two weeks.

“The covering of the bladder serves as a natural protection against infection, and there is no need to specifically remove it,” the doctor noted.

If the bladder is large, then the the likelihood that it will rupture, creating an open wound. This usually happens at the most inopportune moment. A large, fluid-filled callus can be carefully punctured.

  • Disinfect the puncture site and, of course, your hands.
  • Puncture the bubble, making an inlet and outlet hole. The needle should be parallel to the surface of the skin.
  • Cover the punctured callus with a sterile napkin and carefully squeeze out the liquid.
  • Blot the remaining liquid and treat the callus with an antiseptic again.

The callus that you punctured can be sealed with an adhesive bandage or covered with a sterile bandage. You need to change the bandage or plaster at least 2 times a day.

If the callus bubble bursts or ruptures, then the remaining skin should be cut off with scissors wiped with an antiseptic, and the wound itself should also be treated. Next – apply a bandage.

If the callus and the skin around it turn red, a cloudy liquid or pus begins to ooze, and the temperature rises, it means that the wound has become infected. In this case, you should consult a doctor.

Calluses form as a protective reaction of the skin to friction or pressure. They often occur on the hands and feet, especially when wearing ill-fitting shoes or performing repetitive movements.

How to avoid calluses:

Avoid wearing tight or uncomfortable shoes, which can cause friction and pressure on the skin. Choose shoes that fit well and have plenty of cushioning.

Use protective pads, pads, or patches to reduce friction and pressure on areas of the skin.

Keep your skin in good condition: take care of it, regularly moisturize it and avoid dryness.

Keep your nails in good condition.
