Rospotrebnadzor has recorded two cases of coronavirus disease caused by XEC. Residents of the Rostov Region and Ufa fell ill.

According to experts, this variant has similar symptoms to earlier subvariants of FLiRT.

— XEC is most common in France, where it accounts for about 21 percent of sequenced samples. It is also gaining momentum in Germany and the UK, where it accounts for 15 and 8 percent of sequenced samples, respectively, the department noted.

Experts have no special recommendations in connection with the emergence of a new variant of the virus. Russians are traditionally advised to use masks, regularly wash their hands with soap, avoid contact with sick people, and ventilate rooms.

XEC is a combination of two earlier subvariants of omicron FLiRT – KS.1.1 and KP.3.3. Its symptoms are similar to other variants of covid:

  • fever,
  • sore throat,
  • cough,
  • loss of appetite,
  • body aches,
  • fatigue,
  • headache
  • runny nose.

Characteristics of XEC:

Respiratory distress is one of the characteristic symptoms of XEC. Patients complain of shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest.

— XEC tends to cause more severe respiratory complications compared to earlier strains, — noted doctors from the international network of Medicover Hospitals.

Persistent cough is another hallmark of XEC.

Previously, doctors noted that now those infected with coronavirus do not lose their sense of smell, there is no total weakness.
