Cardiologist Lyutsiya Gazizova told how to measure your blood pressure correctly. She gave specific recommendations.

— To reduce the risks associated with hypertension, it is necessary to maintain blood pressure (BP) below 140/90 mm Hg. st., — the doctor emphasized.

How to measure blood pressure correctly?

1. Rest. You need at least 5 minutes of rest in a sitting position.
2. Correct posture. You should sit with your feet fully supported, without crossing or tucking your legs. The arm with the cuff should lie on the table so that the cuff is at heart level. The back and arm should be relaxed.
3. Regularity. Take at least two consecutive measurements every day, in the morning and in the evening.
4. Record the results. Keep a self-monitoring diary and show it to your doctor.
5. Do not smoke or drink coffee or other similar beverages half an hour before the measurement.
6. Make sure that your clothes do not squeeze your upper arm during measurement.

Hypertension is often called the “silent killer” because many people may not even realize that they have high blood pressure. Regular blood pressure measurement is important for early detection and control of hypertension.

Signs of hypertension:

  • Headaches. Often throbbing, especially in the back of the head.
  • Dizziness.
  • Difficulty breathing, especially during physical exertion.
  • Feeling constantly tired or weak.
  • Blurred or “spotted” vision.
  • There may be nosebleeds.
  • Chest pain.

Earlier, cardiologist Oksana Rotar explained what blood pressure is considered high.

— The systolic blood pressure figure of 140 is already considered high blood pressure, this is a line. The value of 139 is still prehypertension, she noted.
