Dietician Elena Solomatina: coffee has great potential for benefits, but not everyone should drink the drink.

Drinking coffee is associated with a number of health-improving effects – it reduces levels of inflammatory stress and helps prevent cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, heart attack, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and vascular dementia. But doctor Solomatina warned: when drinking coffee, you can go beyond what is healthy. If you drink it in large quantities, the nervous system may be damaged and insomnia may develop. At the same time, the doctor noted that sensitivity to caffeine is individual – for some it will be a lot to drink a cup of the drink every day.

The doctor explained who should not drink coffee. In particular, people with high blood pressure, stress, or emotional instability should avoid it. The doctor drew attention to the fact that emotional incontinence can be a manifestation of problems with the thyroid gland – for example, thyrotoxicosis (hyperthyroidism).

“With thyrotoxicosis (increased production of thyroid hormones), a person becomes excitable and easily irritable. If you add coffee, he may become more excitable, his heartbeat may increase, even to the point of tachycardia,” the specialist warned in a commentary for 5-tv.ru.
Solomatina added that coffee should not be drunk in cases where there are disturbances in the functioning of the brain associated with the production of neurotransmitters and hormones. With such disorders, a person experiences difficulties with self-control and easily becomes angry and aggressive. And in such a case, you should avoid not only coffee, but also other invigorating drinks and alcohol.

Elena Solomatina also advised Russians not to drink coffee on an empty stomach – such a habit can negatively affect the condition of the mucous membrane of the digestive organ.
