“Risk of weight problems”: doctor Mikhaleva explained the harm of cereals and muesli for breakfast

Doctor Oksana Mikhaleva: flakes and muesli are refined grains, the consumption of which should be limited.

Doctor Mikhaleva advised Russians not to eat them for breakfast cereals and muesli. According to the doctor, products classified as “refined or refined grains” are products made from super-processed grains, which have been stripped of their shell containing fiber, B vitamins and minerals. A grain product left without these important nutrients essentially becomes a source of only carbohydrates, which are quickly absorbed and provoke sharp spikes in sugar and insulin levels. Eating a serving of cereal or muesli is like eating a cake, says doctor.

“Such a product, unlike whole grains, contains a large amount of simple carbohydrates with a high glycemic index… those prone to overweight, diabetes and diseases of the cardiovascular system are better not to consume such products,” said Oksana Mikhaleva in a commentary to Gazeta.Ru.< br>She noted that breakfast cereals and muesli are often sold in formulations that are further sweetened by their manufacturers. This further increases the glycemic load of such a product. Eating it for breakfast can be a “blow” to the pancreas.

In addition, they may contain vegetable or refractory oils that increase calorie content, or synthetic vitamins that are undesirable for consumption. Thus, Mikhaleva said, eating muesli and cereal for breakfast increases the risk of developing health and weight problems, starting from childhood.

The MedikForum.ru portal previously wrote about how much sugar can be eaten without harm to health women and men.
