Oncologist Valeria Komissarova: eating vegetables is one of the most accessible ways to prevent cancer.

Oncologist Komissarova told which vegetables should be included in the daily diet to improve the body's defense against the development of cancer. The doctor noted that the anti-cancer effect of the vegetables consumed is largely due to the presence of high doses of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants – substances that protect cells from damage by free radicals, which leads to oxidative stress, which underlies many malignant mutations.

“In addition, filling the diet with vegetables and fruits helps reduce overall calorie consumption, which is a preventative measure against obesity, which is known to be one of the risk factors for cancer. It is advisable to eat at least 400 grams of non-starchy vegetables and fruits every day,” the oncologist added in a conversation with aif.ru.
Komissarova named vegetables that are especially rich in antioxidants – broccoli, white cabbage and Brussels sprouts, carrots, tomatoes, eggplants, beets, bell peppers, pumpkin, onions and garlic, and various green leafy vegetables. The doctor advised eating them fresh or after minimal heat treatment.

The oncologist also drew attention to the fact that vegetables with beta-carotene help protect the body from various types of cancer.

“A lot of beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body, is found in yellow peppers, carrots, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes. Vitamin A protects against colon, prostate, breast, lung and stomach cancer,” the doctor stated.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about which seasonal vegetables effectively promote body rejuvenation, named by endocrinologist Ekaterina Yang.
