Nutritionist Solomatina spoke about the ability of such a popular summer dish as okroshka to harm the health of people 60 years and older. In an interview with Moskva 24, the specialist said that the consequences of eating okroshka could be disturbances in the digestive tract, coupled with unpleasant and painful symptoms.

“There are a lot of radishes in okroshka. It contains a sufficient amount of organic acids that irritate the gastrointestinal tract of the elderly,” the nutritionist explained.
Also, Solomatina drew attention to the fact that the sausage included in the dish is not useful for the health of the elderly. This product is saturated with harmful fat, salt, contains unwanted artificial additives.

In addition, the doctor added, okroshka is often seasoned with kefir, which also contains saturated fat.

“Together with other ingredients, everything it’s hard enough for the elderly to digest,” the expert stated.
As for the option of okroshka on kvass, according to the doctor, it is contraindicated in case of existing insulin resistance or diabetes mellitus, which elderly people often suffer from. In addition, today it is problematic to buy natural kvass in the store, which would not be replete with sugar, preservatives and other potentially harmful ingredients.
