Blue zones refer to “parts of the world where people live the longest and are the healthiest”. People living in the Blue Zones have “incorporated social bonding-oriented exercises into their daily routine.”
In Okinawa, Japan (one of the Blue Zones), there is a concept of social bonding called “moai .
“A small group of people commit to meet regularly to celebrate and sympathize with each other, as well as just to “be” together. Many of these begin at age five but continue into much older age, and many also belong to several of these support communities,” says endocrinologist Antonina Gureeva, especially for MedicForum.
Most of the Blue Zones are Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California in mountainous areas.
“You need good muscle mass and balance to just move around the village, meet friends and run errands. The Icarians in Greece are a great example of this; they love to live in the mountains, so they train just by walking to visit friends.”
Costa Rica also enjoys a deep connection with nature and with each other. They are not afraid to get dirty, feel the sand in their toes or dive into the blue ocean. Many people work and socialize outside to breathe fresh air every day.
There are four main ways to increase your lifespan:

People are encouraged to eat less salt and sugar in their diets and reduce their intake of saturated fats.
Proper nutrition in old age is more important than medication
Saturated fats can be found in cakes, cookies, bacon, cheese, pies and ice cream. While cutting out such foods may seem limiting, focusing on fruits and vegetables will add nutrients to your diet.
Protein sources can include beans, legumes, fish, eggs instead of fatty cuts of meat.
