Dietitian Mariyat Mukhina: a very strong desire to eat something floury can occur with hypoglycemia.

Nutritionist Mukhina spoke about the reasons for food cravings their test. According to the doctor, a strong desire to eat something floury arises due to a lack of glucose:

“I want to eat sweet and starchy foods with hypoglycemia, when the concentration of glucose in the blood drops.”
In an interview with Moscow 24, the specialist noted that such a craving for flour foods can be aggravated after exertion, both physical and emotional (stress). For example, after working hard in the country, on the site, a person may feel a strong desire to eat something floury. This is due to the fact that his muscles, having worked, squandered glycogen – their main fuel, which is essentially stored glucose. To make up for it, the brain sends specific electrical impulses that form an increased appetite for carbohydrate foods – floury and sweet.

As for stress, Mariyat Mukhina explained:

“Very often we want starchy foods as a result of stress, when there is a strong release of insulin after the work of contrainsular hormones, in particular cortisol.”
