Nutritionist Meshcheryakova noted that potatoes are often demonized as a product , promoting weight gain. However, as a carbohydrate product, it may not be indicated for consumption only in diabetes; in other cases, potatoes can be an excellent addition to the diet.

“Contrary to stereotypes, potatoes are more a healthy than a harmful product,” Tatyana Meshcheryakova said in an interview with Life.
The nutritionist told how to eat potatoes without the risk of gaining weight. The specialist warned: the product should not be consumed in quantities exceeding a 200-gram serving (per day).

“You should eat potato side dish no more than two to three times a week.”
To reduce the risk of weight gain, The nutritionist advised me to eat boiled or baked potatoes. There is no need to use salt.

“Potatoes are combined with non-starchy vegetables, herbs, lean meats, poultry and fish. Its “fatty” variations – fries, chips, fried potatoes – are better not to eat,” the doctor shared.
Meshcheryakova drew attention to the fact that with very high heat treatment (as during frying), potatoes, like any starch-containing product, emit acrylamide is potentially toxic and carcinogenic to the body. This is another reason to eat it simply boiled.

The nutritionist also urged not to be afraid of potato starch. Its consumption has a positive effect on the intestinal microflora, stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria in it.
