Nutritionist Natalya Lazurenko: eating potatoes too often can harm blood vessels.

Nutritionist Lazurenko warned that an addiction to potatoes can lead to the development of atherosclerosis – first of all, this risk is increased by frequent consumption of mashed potatoes and fried potatoes.

The specialist stated that potatoes contain carbohydrates (starch), which, when broken down in the human body, enter the bloodstream in the form of glucose. When receiving it, the body feels full and satisfied, but in large quantities glucose becomes dangerous. That is why you should not overuse potato dishes – such an addiction to this product makes the blood glucose level constantly elevated.

“A large and constantly high amount of glucose for the walls of blood vessels has an unfavorable and detrimental effect, can lead to a change in the smooth surface to a loose and rough one, non-infectious inflammation occurs on it, and this process can be a trigger for increasing the risk of developing atherosclerosis,” said the nutritionist Lazurenko to the Passions portal.
The expert added that especially significant jumps in glucose levels are caused by mashed potatoes and fried potatoes (their carbohydrate content and glycemic index increase). Addiction to such dishes threatens, among other things, the development of insulin resistance – a disorder that precedes the onset of diabetes.

The MedikForum.ru portal previously wrote about how, according to nutritionists, it is correct to eat potatoes.
