Proctologist surgeon Nina Zubova: to prevent bowel cancer, it is important to control the amount of red meat and fast carbohydrates in the diet.

The term “bowel cancer” or “colorectal cancer” includes a variety of malignant tumors that form in the colon and rectum. Doctor Zubova told what helps prevent bowel cancer: she emphasized that susceptibility to this dangerous disease is largely influenced by the lifestyle a person leads.

“The development of colon cancer is facilitated by eating large amounts of red meat – beef, pork, lamb, fast carbohydrates, fast food, a lack of fruits and vegetables in the diet, a deficiency of vitamin K and B vitamins. Smoking increases the risk of the disease by 30-40%, the likelihood of colorectal cancer is significantly increased in those who regularly drink alcoholic beverages, as well as chlorinated tap water,” the surgeon warned in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.
Zubova specified that these factors contribute to the formation of polyps in the intestines, which over time can transform into tumors. For example, polyps often occur with low mobility, which reduces intestinal activity. As for nutrition, it should contain less red meat (especially processed), enough fiber and components that stimulate the development of beneficial intestinal microbiota. The doctor emphasized that a healthy diet, sufficient physical activity, and avoiding bad habits can significantly reduce the likelihood of bowel cancer.

The doctor also advised people over 40 years old to take a test for occult blood in the stool once a year – this is one of the effective methods of preventing colorectal cancer, which allows you to detect adverse changes in the condition of the intestines at an early stage. After 50 years, you should undergo a colonoscopy every 2-3 years. Zubova added that at the very beginning, intestinal cancer does not manifest itself in any way, and such tests help to identify it even in the absence of symptoms.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that men’s susceptibility to prostate cancer largely depends on their nutrition.
