“It doesn't cure anemia”: nutritionist Chekhonina names myths about the benefits of buckwheat

The fact that buckwheat gives the body a lot of iron and saves from the development of iron deficiency anemia is a myth, says nutritionist Yulia Chekhonina.

Nutritionist Chekhonina reported: although buckwheat is considered a healthy product, some of its properties are exaggerated, and some statements about the effects of the cereal are more myth than truth. In particular, such myths include the “theory” that buckwheat increases the level of iron in the blood and saves from anemia.

Chekhonina drew attention to the fact that buckwheat is indeed saturated with iron components, but it is practically not absorbed from plant sources. Eating buckwheat will not help solve the problem of iron deficiency, the expert emphasized.

The nutritionist also skeptically assessed the statement about the benefits of buckwheat as a natural remedy capable of curing diabetes.

“Another common myth: buckwheat is supposedly able to cure diabetes. Of course, this is an exaggeration,” Chekhonina stated in a conversation with Doctor Peter.
At the same time, the nutritionist clarified that buckwheat contains the substance D-chiro-inositol, which increases the sensitivity of cells to insulin. Due to this effect, the likelihood of developing diabetes can decrease.
