Surgeon Alexander Umnov told when drinking kefir can cause abdominal pain, heartburn or other unpleasant sensations.

Doctor Umnov said in a comment for NEWS.ru:

“Despite its beneficial properties, kefir can be dangerous for humans.”
In particular, the doctor noted, it is potentially dangerous to drink kefir that has been left unopened for some time. According to Umnov, valuable lactic acid bacteria die in such kefir (especially if the container with it has been open for a long time). As a result, the drink becomes a source of only yeast, and its consumption can cause fermentation in the digestive tract, bloating and diarrhea, disrupting the work of the intestinal microflora.

The doctor emphasized that kefir should not be consumed by people who have gastritis or peptic ulcer disease. This product has a fairly high acidity, under the influence of which gastric juice is actively secreted. With the named pathologies, this is fraught with the occurrence of discomfort, pain, heartburn.

In addition, kefir contains lactose (milk sugar), which many people cannot tolerate. In this case, its use can also provoke unpleasant symptoms indicating digestive problems or symptoms resembling allergic reactions.

“People with milk protein allergies also react badly to kefir. If you experience rashes, itching, swelling or difficulty breathing after drinking kefir, it is better to stop drinking it and consult a doctor,” the expert stated.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about how sugar substitutes can harm the body.
